The Lagos State Ministry of Environment yesterday shut Oke-Odo and Alamutu markets in Agbado Oke Odo and Mushin Local Government Areas, according to a statement. The statement by the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, Mr Fola Adeyemi said the government had no option after series of warning than to close the two markets in order to prevent epidemic outbreaks and flooding. It quoted the commissioner in-charge of the ministry, Mr Tunde Bello, as saying the government was determined to sanitize all markets.
NAFDAC to Audit 30,000 Water Factories
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) will begin a re-certification exercise next week, targeting what the agency termed "myriad problems" in the production of packaged water.
The agency will audit manufacturing practice of at least 30,000 water packaging plants in the country, said NAFDAC's director general Paul Orhii.
Lassa fever kills doctor, 12 others in Taraba
An outbreak of the deadly haemorrhagic virus Lassa at the Federal Medical Center in Jalingo has killed at least 13 people since its detection a week ago in Taraba state, Xinhua reported.
