President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan congratulated Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko on his victory in February 18, 2012 governorship elections in Sokoto State.
A statement by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, said President Jonathan welcomed Alhaji Wamakko's re-election for a second term by a clear majority of registered voters in Sokoto State as "a manifestation of their continued faith in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their satisfaction with the performance of the Wamakko Administration during his first term in office".

Zakari Biu fired from Nigerian Police over KAbiru Sokoto escape
The Police Service Commission on Wednesday announced the dismissal of Zakari Biu from the Nigerian police force. Biu, until Wednesday, was a commissioner of police in charge of criminal investigations in Abuja
The decision to dismiss Biu was linked to the escape of Kabiru Sokoto, the suspected christmas day Catholic church bomber from police custody. Kabiru Sokoto reportedly masterminded the bombing of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Madala, Niger State on December 25 2011 killing 42 people , he was recently captured in Taraba state.
The decision regarding Biu’s dismissal was taken at the meeting of the PSC which was held in Abuja today.
A statement signed by Mr. Ferdinand U. Ekpe on behalf of the chairman of the commission, Mr. Parry Osayande, said the decision to dismiss Biu was as a result of his culpability in the escape of suspected Boko Haram terrorist Kabiru Umar.

Israel believes that within 2-3 years Iran will have intercontinental missiles able to hit the United States, an Israeli minister said in remarks aimed at raising awareness of the threat it believes a nuclear Iran would pose to the world.

Argentine commuter train crashes, killing 49 people
BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - A packed commuter train plowed into the buffers at a Buenos Aires station during Wednesday's morning rush hour, killing 49 people and injuring more than 600 in Argentina's worst rail accident in more than 30 years, officials said.
Passengers told of chaos and panic as the impact of the collision propelled the second train car into the first carriage, trapping dozens of people as others looked on from the busy platforms at the central Once station.
Bloody Day in Lagos as NURTW Clash Claims 10
The orgy of violence and needless killings continued Monday in Lagos following the bloody clash by factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), at Idumota (Lagos Island) area of the state. At the end of the “war”, no fewer than 10 persons laid dead with many others sustaining varying degrees of injury, and properties worth millions of naira destroyed.
Last Saturday, a petrol tanker fell in Mile Two area of the city, killing five persons and burning over 39 vehicles. Last week too, nine persons were killed by the Lagos Island “Area Boys” as the struggle for power continued in the district.
High Court Stops C’River Governorship Election
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja Monday restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from going ahead with Saturday’s governorship election in Cross River State.
Justice Abdul Kafarati issued the order following an application filed and argued ex-parte by Mr. Nmerengwa Alozie, counsel to the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and its governorship candidate, Dr. Obol Patrick Okomiso, who are the plaintiffs.
Security tight after market attack kills 30
Security forces patrolled an extensive market in Nigeria’s northeastern city of Maiduguri on Tuesday where an assault by suspected Islamists killed some 30 people, vendors and residents said.

Nigeria Army 'kill Islamist Boko Haram militants'
Nigerian security forces say they have killed at least eight militants in fighting in the north-eastern city of Maiduguri.
The army said the members of Islamist militant group Boko Haram died in an exchange of gunfire, and that troops had safely detonated three bombs.
