Keshi drops Mikel, Osaze, lists injured Yobo

Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, has unexpectedly left out Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi and other English Premier League players, except for Wigan’s Victor Moses, out of the team that will face Namibia, Malawi and Rwanda in the 2014 World Cup and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in June.

Keshi, on Thursday, named 11 Europe-based professionals that will join 18 of the 22 home-based players listed to play the May 23 friendly with Peru.

Kenny Dalglish leaves Liverpool manager's post

Kenny Dalglish has left his post as Liverpool manager.

The 61-year-old has paid the price for Liverpool's poor Premier League performances, especially at Anfield.

Dalglish's departure comes after face-to-face talks with principal owners John W Henry and Tom Werner in Boston on Monday.

Ronaldinho set for Olympics snub

Sao Paulo – Brazil coach Mano Menezes failed to pick Ronaldinho on Friday for friendlies ahead of the London Games, virtually ending the player's chances of making it to the Olympics again.

Neymar, Alexandre Pato and Paulo Henrique Ganso were among the 23 players selected for the friendlies against Denmark on May 26, the United States on May 30, Mexico on June 3 and Argentina on June 9.

The players selected are expected to form the core of a squad which will try to lead Brazil to its first Olympic gold medal in football, and Menezes hinted that those not on the list likely won't be in London.

13 Eagles Begin Training for Peru

Papa Idris, Gabriel Reuben, Gbolahan Salami, Hussein Hassan, were among the 13 early callers to the national team’s camp in Abuja, as preparations start in earnest today for the international friendly in Lima, Peru, scheduled for May 23.

Other players in camp as at lunch time  Monday include Kalu Uche and Henry Uche both of Enyimba of Aba, Izu Azuka and Godfrey Oboabona of Sunshine Stars, Kwara’s Barbabas Imenger, Samson Pius, Dolphins newcomer Nwachi Emmanuel, Nura Mohammed and Gombe’s Marcel Obiorah.

Juventus win Serie A title - now to end season unbeaten

Juventus's redemption is complete, after they claimed a first legitimate Scudetto in nine years with victory over Cagliari on Sunday evening.

Six years ago, Juve were cast into the wilderness as punishment for their prominent role in the Calciopoli scandal, but they have been transformed into the best team in Italy once again under the stewardship of Antonio Conte.

There was always the sense that this season offered a new beginning for the Biaconeri, with the move to a purpose built new home an opportunity to forget previous transgressions at the ageing Stadio delle Alpi.

Football legend, Rashidi Yekini, passes on

One of Nigeria’s most celebrated footballer Rashidi Yekini is dead. Yekini, 49, died in Ibadan on Friday with causes of the painful death yet to be ascertained.

The gangling striker, who will be remembered mostly for his goal scoring prowess, was severally reported to be ill for an extended period of time and  was said to have suffered from bipolar disorder, depression and some other undisclosed neurological defect.

Di Matteo: I can't keep playing the same players

Chelsea' s boss Roberto Di Matteo has all but conceded that he has failed in the primary task handed to him following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas - to finish at least fourth in the league.

Di Matteo lamented his side's inability to raise their game for the debilitating 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United last night.

The Nigeria Premier League acts on attack on Ocean Boys, Fine Sharks FC

The Nigeria Premier League has fined top club Sharks after some of its fans attacked players and officials from Ocean Boys.

The incident occurred before the two sides were due to clash on Saturday but the game was eventually postponed.

The Sharks' fine is around N2,986,799.94 (US$19,000) but the Nigeria Football Federation needs to ratify the NPL's decision.

The club must also play their home games behind closed doors until further notice.
